Mark Boozer, Partner

Mark Boozer shapes the overall strategic direction of CTMI. Mark is an accomplished entrepreneur and passionate thought leader who is client-focused in identifying and recovering dollars in Property Tax and Real Estate, Personal Property, and Sales and Use Tax. His service expertise encompasses 25+ years in the oil and gas, retail, manufacturing, cable and hospitality industries. Mark built and led CTMI’s AP Audit and Unclaimed Property Services team and oversees the cultivation of client relationships, company management and marketing operations. Mark holds a BBA in Marketing, Management and Entrepreneurship from Baylor University.

Mark Boozers’ achievements include:
  • Established his career as a Regional Audit Manager for Broniec & Associates for 4 years before starting his own company
  • Founded BoozerScott & Company, an AP Audit and Sales Tax consulting services firm in 1992
  • Drove the merger of BoozerScott and Corporate Tax Management to create CTMI
  • Creating and transitioning the acquisition of 3 specialized tax firms into one nationwide practice to maximize horsepower and expertise

Jerrod Raymond, Partner

Jerrod Raymond leads the Sales and Use Tax Practice and is responsible for all aspects for multi-jurisdictional transaction tax services. Jerrod embodies 20+ years of experience in public accounting focusing on managing the sales and use tax burden and working with state taxing authorities to reduce or negotiate audit assessment. Jerrod has extensive experience in a variety of industries including construction, oil and gas exploration and production, petrochemical and refining, pipeline operations, oilfield services, processing and other manufacturing operations. Jerrod holds a BA in Accounting from Tarleton State University.

Jerrod Raymond is a knowledge leader in the following areas:

Salim Nice, Managing Partner

Salim leads the visioneering of CTMI’s innovation in technology from strategy, development and implementation of platforms to cultivating dynamic partnerships and external relationships. With more than 20 years of advanced tech development experience in both private and government organizations, Salim has held leadership roles spanning SVP & COO to VP of IT and Information Services with extensive experience managing audits ranging from Medicare and Medicaid to Accounts Payable Recovery and Sales & Use Tax Audits. Salim holds a BA in Criminal Justice/Pre-Law from the University of Seattle.

Melinda Hooks Smith, Director of Client Relationship Management

Melinda Hooks Smith leads the Client First Initiative at CTMI to ensure a first-class service experience. Melinda is highly skilled in culture building, talent development and believes in a client-centric approach to building business. She has 25+ years of leading business development, branding/marketing, client relationship management and client operations experience. She has served as SVP of a recruiting firm, Accounting Manager for a manufacturing company and a Career and Technology Director in the education sector. Melinda holds a BBA in Finance and Marketing from Baylor University.

Ellen Zumar, Director of Business Personal Property

Ellen Zumar with 36+ years of experience in state and local tax consulting leads the Business Personal Property Division. She served 18+ years with a national retailer as a Tax Professional involved in Real and Personal Property Tax, Sales & Use Tax and strategic tax planning before joining CTMI in 1997. Ellen’s experience includes extensive work in the manufacturing, printing and publishing, broadcasting, oil and gas, telecommunication, distribution, retail and hospitality industries. Her success negotiating reductions in property tax liabilities across the US has led to hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax savings for CTMI’s clients. Ellen holds a BBA in Accounting from Texas Wesleyan University.

Ellen Zumar’s personal and professional commitment to diligence, hard work and precise attention to detail consistently provides clients with a level of service that is hard to find in today’s fast-paced business world. She is keenly aware of the value of relationships and reputation. Her years of service in this industry have given her insight into identifying and quantifying significant and long-lasting tax savings for her clients.

Scott Schwertner, Director of Sales & Use Tax

Scott Schwertner leads the Sales & Use Tax Team for CTMI. Scott has 20 years of Sales and Use Tax experience in both Industry and Consulting while working across the United States for some of the largest manufacturing and oil and gas companies. Scott has extensive experience completing refund projects, audits, and managed audits for his clients and former employers. Scott Schwertner holds a BBA in Accounting from Texas A&M University.

Scott Schwertner has spent his entire career saving Clients and Employers Sales and Use Taxes, while providing them the most professional and ethical services. His commitment to his clients has created lasting business and personal relationships over the last 20 years.
